REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla has urged Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri to work harder to prepare Indonesian human resources for the future economic climate.
"I come here to unite our views. Without one view, you will do what is happening now without changing your mind to face the future. The Manpower Ministry should not only discuss regional minimum wages, but should also think of how to prepare the Indonesian economy for the future," he said, while giving directives to echelon I and II officials of the Manpower Ministry on Thursday.
He also asked the Manpower Minister to encourage training for workers as part of efforts to groom them for the industrialization era in the future.
The rank and file of the Manpower Ministry must be able to change their mindset and should not only deal with minimum wages, but should also prepare human resources, who are ready to work in the industrialization era, he said.
"Don't think that this ministry only deals with demonstrators and handles disputes between employers and employees. I really know this because 14 years ago I was a neighbor of this office," he said.
Therefore, he asked the ministry to increase cooperation with other agencies to provide technology-based training for workers.
"In the past, job training centers taught trainees how to weld something with a variety of instruments, but now people weld something using a computer. In the past, people had learnt electronics using an analog system, but now they have switched to a digital system. So these all must be improved," he said.
