REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUTA -- A total of 692 domestic and international flight schedules at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, had to be canceled as a result of eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
"The airport is now exposed by volcanic ashes from the eruption of Mount Barujari," said Head of Airport Authority of Region IV, Yusfandri Gona, Wednesday (4/11).
According to him, the cancellation of hundreds of flights started when the airport was closed on Tuesday (3/11) until Thursday (5/11) at 8:45 am local time.
He described the number of flights what were canceled consisted of 183 arrivals and 189 departures for domestic routes. For the international routes, during the three days of the closing, 157 arrivals and 163 departures were canceled.
In addition, on Wednesday (4/11), five scheduled international flights had to be diverted to Cengkareng and Surabaya, namely Singapore Airlines SQ-948 Singapore-Denpasar, AirAsia AWQ-833 Bangkok-Denpasar, Garuda Indonesia GA-857 Hong Kong-Denpasar, Emirates 398 Dubai-Denpasar, and AirAsia 545 Perth-Denpasar.
Three aircraft were also forced to return to base (RTB), namely KLM 835 Singapore-Denpasar, MXD-308 Kuala Lumpur-Denpasar, and AXM-374 Kuala Lumpur-Denpasar
