REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BADUNG -- Crowded atmosphere was seen at Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, after the closure of the airport following the eruption of Mount Barujari, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The airport authority recorded that there were at least 6,000 passengers piled up at the departure terminal.
"Passengers for international routes reach 4,000 people, while the rest are domestic passengers," said Co General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I of Ngurah Rai Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, Wednesday (4/11).
A passenger from Australia, Jeremy, said he was waiting at the airport since Tuesday (3/11) night and planned to fly with Jetstar airline to Melbourne early on Wednesday (4/11). However, the closure of the airport made him rescheduled his return to Australia.
"The flight delays made me have to extend time here. Maybe it could be three days, if there is no refund," he said, Wednesday (4/11).
Another resident, Tari Wulandari claimed to have been waiting for the arrival of his brother, who was scheduled to arrive from Perth this morning. Tari admitted, she had got information on extension of the closure of the airport from one of online media.
"Hopefully the weather is good by tomorrow morning," she said.
Ngurah Rai Airport closure was extended after recommendation from satellite monitoring and information of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), following the eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok, NTB. Thousands of passengers had piled up and waited for information at the information center prepared by the airport authority.
