Petronas launches two largest oil and gas project in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GRESIK -- Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) through its subsidiary in Indonesia, announced the achievement of production of two oil and gas fields in East Java.

"The fields are in Bukit Tua and Kepodang," said President of PC Muriah Ltd and PC Ketapang II Ltd, Hazli Sham Kassim, in Gresik, East Java, Wednesday (4/11).

Hazli explained, Bukit Tua field was located in the northern seas of East Java, about 35 kilometers north of Madura Island. The production capability of this field was up to 20 thousand barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 50 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

Meanwhile, Kepodang field, was located in 180 kilometers northeast of Semarang. It was expected to produce 116 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

"We expect production of these fields is able to meet the energy demand in Indonesia, especially for domestic use in East Java and Central Java," Hazli added.

He admitted, since the presence of Petronas in Indonesia in 2000, from ten contracts and four oil and gas operations, these two fields were the largest project. Petronas had invested up to 658 million US dollars to Bukit Tua field and 524 million US dollars for Kepondang.

"We use Cyclone Solid Removal technology for Bukit Tua project and have save costs of up to 16.6 million US dollars," he said.

Meanwhile, for Kepodang field, Petronas was utilizing methods of float over to the first installation of CPP Topside and segmentizer technology. Shareholders of the two fields were 80 percent Petronas and the rest owned by PT Saka Ketapang Perdana and Saka Energi Muriah Ltd.
