REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Nine members of the Indonesian police headquarters' detective division secured the deportation of 86 Chinese nationals involved in cybercrimes to Shanghai, a police officer stated.
The deportees were part of the 119 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals arrested in October on charges of conducting telecommunication fraud, Chief of the Indonesian Police's IT and Cybercrime Unit Senior Commissioner Rahmad Wibowo noted here on Tuesday.
The suspects were arrested in Cirebon (West Java), Surabaya (East Java), and Bali on October 19-20, he remarked, adding that the deportees were secured during the flight from Jakarta to Shanghai by eight members of the police's IT and Cybercrime Unit headed by Adjunct Senior Commissioner Slamet Waluyo.
He reported that in addition to the 88 cellular phones and 49 passports seized during the raids, the police also confiscated Rp174.3 million, US$ one thousand, 27.9 thousand Hong Kong dollars, 683.3 thousand Taiwanese dollars, and 12.7 thousand Chinese yuan.
Their arrest was made on the request of the Criminal Investigation Department of China's Ministry of Public Security. All the suspects were also accused of having violated the Indonesian immigration regulations, Wibowo noted.
