REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SIDOARJO -- The military (TNI) soccer club of "PS TNI" defeated the Surabaya United 2-1 of Group C opening match of General Sudirman Cup which takes place at the Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo on Sunday.

"This is an important victory and I'm very satisfied with the end result," PS TNI's coach Suharto AD said after the match here.

Two goals for the TNI's victory were scored by Legimin Raharjo in the 50th minute and Manahati Lestusen in 86th, meanwhile the player of Surabaya United Fandi Eko Utomo netted the single goal in the 88th minute.

"Indeed I am not satisfied with the game, but the end result should be appreciated. Thanks to the players who struggled to get full points and the squad should be better in the next game," Suharto stated.

In the meantime, coach of the Surabaya United Ibnu Grahan was disappointed with the game and the final results obtained in the first match.

The General Sudirman Cup 2015 soccer tournament was officially opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, East Java on Tuesday night (Nov 10).

As many as 15 soccer clubs are participating in this soccer event that started on November 10. The tournament was initiated by the Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander.

The soccer tournament is being organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Indonesian military (TNI).

The General Sudirman tournament qualifiers that started on November 12 will continue till November 22, while the semifinal will be held in each of the semifinalist`s home (home and away format) from January 9 to 17, 2016.

Meanwhile the final round will take place at the Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on January 24, 2016.
