REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Director of the Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Department Senior Commissioner Krishna Murti said a Monday explosion in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta was a criminal act, not terrorism.
"According to our initial suspicion, the incident was just an ordinary crime, but it involved an extraordinary device, namely a grenade," Murti said after inspecting the scene on Monday.
A terrorist usually targets a public area, not a building owned by an individual, he added.
"This building is owned by an individual. There is only a slight possibility that this was a terror act, but most likely it concerns a personnel dispute," he said.
The four-story Multi Meranti Graha building was attacked by an unknown perpetrator using a fragmentation grenade.
The building is now temporarily closed as the police investigation continues.
The police suspect that the perpetrator is a professional who has been trained in the use of grenades.
Parts of the building were damaged and a security officer was injured in the attack.
