REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA-- The Kendari city administration in Southeast Sulawesi has received the Adipura Kencana Cup in the medium city category this year for the second time from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
"We are pleased to be able to successfully retain the Adipura Kencana Cup in the metropolitan city category this year along with Surabaya, and Balikpapan won in the large city category," Mayor of Kendari Asrun stated after receiving the cup at the Bidakara Hotel here on Monday.
The Adipura Kencana award this year has been presented to only three cities, while last year, 15 cities in Indonesia received this award.
The Adipura Kencana cups were presented to Kendari, Surabaya, and Balikpapan on Monday night at Bidakara Hotel by Vice President Jusuf Kalla in the company of Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar.
"We were able to retain the Adipura Kencana Cup for the second time due to the hard work we put in along with the local community to maintain cleanliness, beauty, and order in the city," Asrun noted.
In the meantime, Vice President Kalla remarked that the Adipura Kencana award was given to the region that managed to keep the environment clean in order to prevent the onset of various diseases.
"The Adipura Kencana award is very beneficial for the survival of humans and other ecosystems," Kalla added.
