REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Senior lawyer Otto Cornelis Kaligis was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison with a fine of Rp 300 million subsidiary 4 months in prison. Kaligis proved guilty in giving a bribe to the judges and the clerk of State Administrative Court of Medan, North Sumatra.
"We declare the defendant Otto Cornelis Kaligis was proven legally and convincingly guilty of corruption as the first indictment that person who gives something to the judge to influences the decision of the case submitted to it," said judge Sumpeno, in a trial in Corruption Court, Jakarta, Thursday (17/12).
Secondly, the judge imposed imprisonment for 5 years and 6 months reduced prison terms and fined Rp 300 million. If the fine was not paid, it was substituted with imprisonment for four months.
Kaligis verdict was finally made dropped after delayed for a week, because on Thursday (10/12) last week, Sumpeno as presiding judge was sick and hospitalized. The trial, which was scheduled at 10:00 am, was also just starting at 04:30 pm.
Hundreds of supporters of OC Kaligis wearing a white shirt, including artist Nadia Saphira and his daughter Velove Vexia, have filled Kartika room in the Corruption Court, since morning. The judges which were consisting of Sumpeno, Arifin, Tito Suhud, Ugo, and Alexander Marwata, stated that OC Kaligis was convicted of first indictment in article 6 paragraph 1 letter a of Act No. 31 as amended by Act No. 20 of 2001 on Corruption Eradication in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of 1st Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 of Criminal Code.
