REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok, claimed to have never held a special event to commemorate Mother's Day as he believes that every day is Mother's Day.
Ahok made the statement after acting as the inspector of the ceremony to honor Mother's Day at the Monas Square here on Tuesday.
"For me, every day is Mother's Day. Therefore, I never hold an event or special rituals for Mother's Day," the Jakarta governor affirmed.
However, he expressed hope that the younger generation would be able to realize the true essence of Mother's Day, and most importantly, would continue to revere their mothers.
"Frankly speaking, I never hold special rituals, or even give a special gift to my mother during Mother's Day, but I hope the younger generation would always remember and respect their mothers," Ahok emphasized.
