REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries released, bluefin and yellowfin tuna are two types of fish mostly stolen by foreign vessels that were illegally operated in Indonesian waters. It was because both fishes are best-selling fishes with high price in international market.
Bluefin and yellowfin tuna are widely marketed to Japan, China, and Taiwan. Japanese society is also often eat them as sashimi.
Director of Directorate General of Fisheries Resources Management Tyas Budiman said, Indonesia is very rich with a variety of marine life. So that it becomes a heaven for illegal fishing.
"Fresh bluefin tuna is the most expensive in Indonesia, the price is Rp 100 thousand to Rp 200 thousand per kilogram. While frozen bluefin tuna is Rp 10 thousand to Rp 25 thousand per kilogram," Tyas explained, Wednesday (6/1).
A weight of a bluefin tuna can reach more than 100 kg to 300 kg. Then a bluefin tuna valued hundreds of millions to billions of rupiah.
