REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Indonesia's Vice President Jusuf Kalla reiterated that both the rival factions of Golkar Party have agreed to reconcile.
Jusuf Kalla, fondly known as JK, made the remarks on the sidelines of an event wherein he observed the container terminal belonging to Pelindo 4 here on Saturday, said Golkar has also set up a team to oversee the transition as the party's rival groups unite at a national conference.
"Ical (Aburizal Bakrie) or the general chairman of Golkar faction, following the Bali Congress' results, has signed the agreement to reconcile. We need a neutral senior figure for the national conference," JK said.
A tribunal of the Golkar Party, presided over by Muladi, had earlier entrusted Jusuf Kalla, the former general chairman of the party, to become chairman of the transitional team.
The transitional team comprises Prof B.J. Habibie as patron, JK as general chairman and member, along with Ginanjar Kartasasmita, Emil Salim, Abdul Latif, Suswono Yudhohusodo, Akbar Tandjung, Aburizal Bakrie, Agung Laksono, Teo L. Sambuaga, and Soemarsono as team members.
The transitional team was entrusted with determining the essentials of the national conference and its membership, the conference's organizing committee, and fix a date and venue for the same.
Another rival faction of the Golkar Party was chaired by Agung Laksono, who was elected as the general chairman of this rival group in a Congress in Ancol, North Jakarta.
