REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia will study possible expansion of cooperation with Iran after the lifting of international economic sanction on the Gulf state.

Indonesia is considering cooperation with Iran mainly in the development of energy such as oil and gas , and renewable energy development, said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said.

"After the lifting of the sanction , there are opportunities open that we should not miss," Sudirman said here on Wednesday.

He said Iran could be involved in the development of a number of projects such as petrochemical, electricity and renewable energy projects.

"We could offer Iran project in electricity sector such as hydro electric and wind energy generating plant," the minister said.

Iranian investors could also be offered to build Liquid Petroleum Gas plant (LPG).

Currently Iran could produce up to 51 million MT of LPG and 1 million barrels of condensate per year.

Iran also was reported offering Indonesian investors to venture in urea fertilizer industry in southern region of that country bordering on Pakistan, Sudirman said, adding the price of gas , the main feed stock for the fertilizer industry, is "very cheap' in that area , around US$2 to US$3 per mmbtu.

So far there has been no projects built by Iranian company in the country.

"No project has been realized, but there are a number being studied including projects to be built jointly between Pertamina and Iranian oil company. One LPG plant and one condensate factory," Sudirman said.

The possibility is greater with a planned visit to the country by an Iranian energy delegation in February to be followed with a visit by and oil and gas delegation from that country.

"I might have to go to Iran to discuss details of possible cooperation," he said.
