REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to inspect the development of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Jakabaring, South Sumatra, on Thursday, according to local Transportation and Communication Office spokesman Nasrun Umar.
"The president was originally scheduled to oversee the project on Tuesday, but due to his tight schedule, it was postponed until Thursday," Umar remarked here on Monday.
According to the spokesman, the president will visit Palembang on Thursday to review the progress of the LRT project to uncover any obstacle.
South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin had earlier stated that the development of light rail lines must be completed before the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, according to Umar.
"Therefore, the president's plan to oversee the project is important as it has to be completed as planned," the governor affirmed.
Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan made assurance here recently that the LRT development project, now in progress, would be completed on time as no obstacles have been found.
"Before the Asian Games 2018, the LRT will be open for use," he stated after meeting Governor Noerdin at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport here.
Based on the report, the construction of light railway lines has progressed as expected, and this demonstrates that the program would be completed as planned, he affirmed.
He emphasized the importance of coordination as the development projects were closely linked to public facilities.
Several public facilities could be affected due to the project such as gas pipes, electricity network, and clean water supply lines, and hence, coordination must be prioritized, he added.
