REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the government will create synergy among a number of state companies (BUMNs) to contribute to investment development.

"This year I have set target to establish at least six holding companies," Jokowi said in a dialog held by the Indonesian Association of Economists (ISEI) here on Wednesday.

He said the purpose is to strengthen investment and to make it easier for BUMNs to raise capital.

He said state companies operating in the same line of business could create a synergy to strengthen capital instead of operating separately.

He also said that regional banks owned by regional administrations could support each other "Bank DKI , which more powerful in capital could offer help to other regional banks," he said.

He said funds held by state banks should be mobilized in productive and real sectors.

"We must not keep funds in banks hoping only to earn from high interest rates . I think that is not a good education , therefore, should be abandoned," he said.
