REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON -- Anti drug police have unveiled drug traffic controlled by a syndicate leaders serving jail terms at the Tanjung Gusta prison of Medan , North Sumatra and the Cipinang penitentiary in East Jakarta.

"Ricky Gunawan alias Ricky Bom-bom, a convict at the Cipinang prison controlled traffic of drugs to the end consumers, and Anchiong alias Karun, who serves jail term at the Tanjung Gusta prison arranged smuggling and transport of drugs from Malaysia," head of the Team of Narcotics Investigation Center (NIC) of the Narcotics Directorate of the Police's Criminal Detective Body (Bareskrim) Adj. Sr.Comr. Dony Setiawan said here on Wednesday.

Dony said four teams of investigators from Bareskrim have been assigned to investigate and tracked down suspects involved in the illicit trade.

Based on the investigations it was known that the syndicate had often smuggled drugs including methamphetamine and ecstasy in considerable volume using boat from Malaysia to Selat Panjang and from there to Cirebon.

"We decided not to directly make arrest to stop them , but we allow them to continue until they put their illicit drugs in a warehouse in Cirebon," Dony said.

The police detectives then arrested the syndicate members M. Rizki and Fajar Priyo Susilo when carrying 15 kilograms of methamphetamine and 20,000 ecstasy pills on their way to Jakarta. The two were nabbed at the Rest Area of the Cipali Toll Road on Wednesday.

"Rizki and Fajar were carrying the drugs to Jakarta by a car a Toyota Rush car," Dony said.

The police then raided the house of the suspects used as a warehouse in Cirebon and found 25 kilograms of methamphetamine, 160,000 ecstasy pills, 10 units of hand phones , a pair of scales, etc.

The team also brought in Ricky Gunawan alias Ricky Bom-bom from his prison cell for questioning. Ricky had ordered Rizki and Fajar to send the drugs to customers in Jakarta," Dony said.

Anciong alias Karun was also questioned for his role in arranging the smuggling of the drugs from Malaysia.

On March 17 two other suspects Jusman and Khoirul were also arrested and a boat the Bahari I was confiscated.

Jusman was a younger brother of the owner of the Bahari I boat used to smuggle the drugs from Malaysia and Khoirul accompanied Jusman in the smuggling and transporting the drugs to Cirebon.

Investigations of the suspects led to the arrest of other suspects involved in the smuggling including Sugianto alias Achai in Dumai Barat who took part in arranging the transport from Malaysia to Selat Panjang ; Hendri Unan and Gunawan Aminah.

Meanwhile, head of the planning bureau of the ministry of law and human rights Pugu Sri Budiutami said that reports of rampant traffic of prison houses came as a slap on the face for the ministry officials especially prison guards.

"The officials of the ministry should be ashamed of the fact that drugs have been traded in prison," Pugu said.

Earlier Coordinating Minister for Political Affairs, Law and Security Luhut Binsar Panjaitan called for separate prisons for drub convicts to make easier control of drug traffic at prisons.

Luhut said 50 percent of drug traffic in the country is directed and controlled by syndicate leaders in prisons.

"By holding them in separate prison we have settled 50 percent of the job of controlling drug traffic in the country," he said.
