REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Low transportation costs can improve the people's welfare, according to Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, better known as Ahok.
"Low transportation costs can boost the purchasing power of the people and help to increase public welfare," the governor remarked at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday.
Ahok pointed out that the residents were facing problems, such as high transportation costs and uncertainty regarding the operational schedule.
"Due to these problems, the residents still prefer to use private cars rather than opt for means of public transportation. For this reason, we are also operating PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) buses, with a ticket cost of only Rp3.5 thousand," Basuki noted.
Furthermore, he affirmed that Transjakarta buses had begun operating to the cities of Depok and Bekasi on Monday, but the ticket price to Bogor was still being calculated.
"Today, we started the operations of Transjakarta buses to Depok and Bekasi. We are also ready if the Jakarta provincial government will provide Park and Ride facilities in partner cities, so people working in Jakarta can directly catch the buses from the partner cities," Basuki revealed.
Transjakarta has begun operating the buses to connect Jakarta with partner cities, such as Depok and Bekasi.
