REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- An 82 year-old man, identified as Didi Suwardi, was burnt to death when a fire broke out in his house early on Monday in Pondok Buah Batu village, Lembang, West Java Province, a rescuer said.
The local residents failed to rescue the old man, because the blaze had engulfed the whole house, chief of Bandung Barat District fire brigade unit Dadang Dahyar said here on Monday.
"Personnel of the fire brigade unit and local residents worked hard to extinguish the fire, but it killed the elderly man who got trapped in his room," Dahyar explained.
According to him, the fire that broke out at midnight, was allegedly caused by an electrical short circuit, and was extinguished an hour before dawn.
The fire brigade personnel found it difficult to put out the fire because the house was in a densely populated area.
"We deployed five fire brigade trucks," he stated, adding that Aca, wife of Didi Suwardi, suffered burns on parts of her body and needed medical treatment.
Another resident also suffered burns on his hands and leg, and was rushed to a hospital.
