REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- The Gorontalo district administration is building 100 houses for the fishermen in Buloila and Lelato Villages of Sumalata Sub-district to improve the lives of the coastal fishing community residing in the region.
"It is hoped that there will be no slums in those regions by 2018," District Head of Gorontalo Indra Yasin stated here on Wednesday.
As Buloila and Lelato have the highest population of fishermen compared to other villages in the region; hence, the administration has prioritized to initially build houses in those areas.
The administration has set aside Rp15 billion, or some US$1.1 million, to build houses for fishermen, and 60 percent of the construction work has been completed so far.
"The construction of these houses has been accelerated, so that the beneficiaries can live in decent and healthy residences immediately," Yasin affirmed.
At least 78 out of the 123 villages in 11 sub-districts are located in the coastal region of Gorontalo, and the local administration has set a target to build 495 houses in those villages by the end of the year.
