REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- The Search and Rescue Team has found and recovered the body of a climber who reported drowned in the Aik Kalak hot spring of Mount Rinjani on Sunday (May 8).

"We have moved the victim's body on Tuesday night (May 10) at 10:18 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (GMT+8) to Pintu Senaru Post in North Lombok District," Spokesperson of the National Search and Rescue Agency of Mataram Putu Cakra Ningrat stated here on Wednesday.

The team departing from Sembalun Post in East Lombok District took two days to reach the hot spring at the banks of Segara Anak Lake of Mount Rinjani.

"The evacuation efforts were hindered due to bad weather and torrential rains, as well as the steep terrain, demanding alertness of the team while moving the body to Senaru Post," Ningrat noted.

The body of the victim, identified as 26-year-old Ike Suseta Adelia from Palembang, South Sumatra, was taken to the Bhayangkara Hospital of the West Nusa Tenggara Police for an autopsy.

Adelia started the ascent on Friday (May 6) along with some colleagues and was reported to have drowned in the hot spring on Sunday.

Mount Rinjani is an active volcano on the Island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

It rises 3,726 meters above sea level, making it the second-highest volcano in Indonesia.

On the top of the volcano is a caldera, which is partially filled by a crater lake known as Segara Anak whose waters are blue in color.

The lake, located at an altitude of approximately two thousand meters above sea level, contains some hot springs.

Last year in November, Mount Rinjani erupted, spewing volcanic ash up to some 3.5 thousand meters above sea level or one thousand meters above the crater of Barujari.

The ash had engulfed the Lombok Strait, Bali Island, Bali Strait, and Banyuwangi and even caused the temporary closure of the nearby airports.
