REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SIPIROK -- Hundreds of houses in Angkola Sangkunur Sub-district in South Tapanuli District of North Sumatra were inundated since Sunday evening as some rivers had overflown their banks in the region.
Incessant rains have caused the largest river in the Batang Toru region and some smaller rivers, such as Aek Sangkurunr, Malombu and Aek Pardomuan to overflow, Angkola Sangkunur Sub-district Head M. Zein stated here on Monday.
"Some 200 residential houses are inundated," Zein revealed.
Simataniari Sibara-Bara and Simpang Baringin were the two villages that mostly bore the maximum impact of the floods.
The administration of South Tapanuli and the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency have deployed personnel to evacuate the residents displaced by the floods to secure the area.
The local authority continues to gather data on the number of affected residents and the losses incurred due to the floods.
