REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- West Nusa Tenggara NTB) has completed opening 60 percent of the target of 15,250 hectares of new rice fields to be built in the province this year, according to the regional food crop and horticulture farm service.
Hadi Irvan Zahidi, a senior official of the service said rice was already grown and planned to be planted over 60 percent of the 15,250 hectares of rice fields to be built in the province this year.
In Bima , 60 percent of the target of 5,500 hectares have been cultivated, Hadi said here on Friday.
In Dompu, 40 percent of the target of 3,500 hectares, in Sumbawa 53 percent of the target of 4,000 hectares , Sumbawa Barat 85 percent of the target of 500 hectares, in Lombok Timur 80 percent of the target of 1,000 hectares , Lombok Utara 52 percent of the target of 750 hectares have been cultivated.
Zahidi said the new rice fields were built based on the guideline from the agriculture ministry, using underground water, surface water and rain water.
The military took part in the opening of the new rice field working together with villagers.
Zaqhidi said he was optimistic the target of opening 15,250 hectares of new rice field in the province woulds be reached this year.
