REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG – The Province National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) East Nusa Tenggara (NTB) said the number of drug abusers in the local area reach 49 thousand people.
Head of the BNNP NTT grand Commissioner (kombes) Sulistiandriatmoko said 49 thousand people in the local area are known to consume narcotics and other illicit drugs.
"It requires prevention and treatment, it is more effective to prevent the young generation in this region from the threat of death," he said in Kupang on Sunday (22/5).
He said, the number of drug users, has decreased compared to the previous year (2015), which reached 51.298 people.
"Of the total number of consuming it, mostly are young people who are still in the stage trying to consume the narcotics because of the invitation of friends and gift by others," he said.
He explained there are three categories of drug abusers, which are those who try, users, and addicts.
"For the level of ‘try’, the most vulnerable groups are young people.
Because of the high curiosity and desire to taste the drugs, due to various factors such as promiscuity and NTT as very strategic location," he said.
Therefore, BNNPwill prioritize on prevention programs to residents feel curiosity on drugs, with doing socializing of prevention. The most effective prevention is routine urine test on citizens, both individuals and groups by request.
Until May 2016 it had conducted urine test on 139 staff officers and employees in higher judiciary (Kejati) NTT, but none were positive consume drugs. Besides, he said BNNP of NTT also hold health checks and urine tests to military personnel who are members of the Border Security Task Force (satgas Pamtas) RI-RDTL West Sector Yonarmed 11 Kostrad.
