REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs invited some private companies to cooperate in the pilot project institutional development of institution for prevention forest and land fire (karhutla).
"This pilot project is a form of multi-stakeholder approach toward the settlement of the issue of forest fires and land," said Coordinating Minister of Economic Darmin Nasution in Jakarta, Wednesday (25/5).
Nasution said the purpose of the pilot project is to draft best practices and standard operating procedures to prevent forest fires to find the effective and applicable way to villages in Indonesia.
The participation of private parties who signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this pilot project is expected to help and minimize forests and land fire and the impact in the future. One private company which involved in the pilot project is Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas through its partner PT Bumi Andalas Permai (BAP) is located in South Sumatra.
"We welcomed this pilot project and fully support efforts to prevent fires in forest and land," said Director of APP Sinar Mas Suhendra Wiriadinata.
APP Sinar Mas through its partner PT BAP fully supports the government's efforts to prevent and minimize forest fire. Suhendra hope this pilot project can make stakeholders cooperate to handle forest fire and land.
Through this pilot project, the concept of forest fire prevention and land will be focused on early warning, early detection, blackout, and aid for quick response to crisis center. This pilot project will be done in villages that are committed to participate in the institutional development of the prevention of forest and land.
APP Sinar Mas implemented integrated fire management strategy, such as prevention, preparation, early detection, and fast response.
