REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- East Java Provincial Government estimated that the price of beef can be reduced to 95 thousand rupiah per kilogram. Currently, the price of beef in the market has reached 105 thousand rupiah per kilogram.
Head of Industry and Trade (Industry and Trade) East Java Province, M Ardi Prasetyawan, said President Joko Widodo demand of keeping the price range of beef at 80 thousand rupiah prove to be difficult to in East Java, because East Java is the central province of cattle production.
He said beef prices during Ramadhan in 2014 were in range of 90 thousand rupiah. Whereas the price of beef in the range of 80 thousand rupiah was encountered during Ramadhan in 2012-2013.
"The price of beef Rp 95 thousand to Rp 100 thousand per kilogram was most likely in East Java," he said in a discussion with BI Media Talk at Library of Bank Indonesia, Taman Mayangkara Surabaya street on Thursday (26/5).
Nevertheless, East Java provincial government is still waiting for guidelines from the central government to lower the price of beef in the range of 80 thousand rupiah per kilogram. He also continued to support the policies of President Joko Widodo and not reject the President's request.
Meanwhile, beef stock in East Java is still considered surplus. He admittedly does not know the mapping of national need for meat . East Java provincial government will also disseminate to the traders and farmers for production costs to be lowered, so that the market price may fall.
"With many needs outside (East Java) that are still lacking, the government should have a policy to stabilize the price of meat. If the strategy to make the price drops outside, it will definitely affect the price in East Java and will automatically decrease," he explained.
