REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister for Rural, Rural Development and Transmigration Marwan Jafar hoped relations of cooperation between Indonesia and Iran can work well. The strong collaboration is dominated by the energy sector such as the use and development of alternative energy sources.

"We followed the geopolitical Middle Eastern countries and we hope that Indonesia's relationship with Iran, especially in the development of macro and micro, bio energy and can run well," he said, Monday (6/6).

Indonesia, he said, is currently developing alternative energy through the use microhydro, wind power, geothermal and bioenergy. Indonesia has rural energy program which aims to provide access to electricity services to rural communities in Indonesia as a whole.

"In addition to fulfilling the infrastructure in rural areas, the Ministry of Rural also has a village fund program that is used to build basic infrastructure in villages such as roads, embankments, irrigation and so forth."

Iranian Ambassador Valioallah Muhammadi said, Indonesia and Iran have great opportunities for cooperation in the energy field of the village. Iran has implemented geomethal energy to meet the electricity needs of up to 25 megawatts.

"Energy is very suitable for geomethal if applied in the countryside. There is plenty of opportunity for Indonesia and Iran to cooperate,” he said.
