REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian government continues to encourage efforts to finalize the ASEAN instrument on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers.
These instruments will be the basis for protecting the rights of migrant workers without discrimination.
"ASEAN countries remain committed and work together to complete the ASEAN instrument on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers," said Secretary General of Ministry of Labour Abdul Wahab Bangkona, Wednesday (8/6).
At the regional level, one of the alternative efforts to expedite the finalization of the instrument that is through organizing a conference involving all stakeholders.
The conference is scheduled to be held in 2016 and will invite speakers from within and outside ASEAN, including dialogue partners, relevant international organizations such as ILO, IOM, World Bank, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
Until now, the protection of migrant workers instruments that has been developed since 2012 has not been finalized; However, ASEAN countries continue to promote and improve the effective protection of migrant workers.
