REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- The President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) targeted self-sufficiency in beef to be able independently materialize in the next 10 years. Therefore, the Indonesian people would need to get a cow to perform well.

"And it can be used to produce quality sperm," said Jokowi when reviewing PT Karya Anugerah Rumpin in Bogor, on Tuesday (21/6).

the sperms of the cow can later be distributed to a number of parties, both industries and farmers. According to Jokowi, at least on one year Indonesia requires approximately 2 to 3 million of frozen semen to achieve this self-sufficiency.

These upstream efforts can be completed within six years if done consistently. Yet these efforts remains to be be given birth after about three to four years.

"With the high consistency and suitable condition it should be done continuously. It's all very possible as long as the consistency remain and it can take up to 9 to 10 years, "said Jokowi accompanied by the Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) Mohamad Nasir, Minister of Agriculture (Minister of Agriculture) Amran Sulaiman, and Head of the Institute of Sciences Indonesia (LIPI) Iskandar Zulkarnain.

Technologically, Jokowi calculated that it is currently possible and justas we have hoped. But he also warned the government not to just reckless give out superior cows to famers without good preparation and mentoring.

“There will be possibility of failing if careful management is not taken into consideration and we need to use existing system (PT KAR). As for the farmers there must be assistance, "he explained.
