REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LANGKAT -- As many as 29 traditional fishermen from Langkat, North Sumatra, were detained by Malaysian maritime police in Penang Island prison.
"Right now there are 29 traditional fishermen who were there (arrested)," director of Rumah Bahari (Bahari House) Pangkalan Brandan Azhar Kasim said in Pangkalan Brandan, Thursday (23/6).
Azhar Kasim explained based on his agency's data mentioned before the arrest of six fishermen that occurred on Monday (20/6), there are 23 fishermen have been detained Malaysian maritime police. Then added the arrests of six fishermen,a total of 29 fishermen detained in these place. He wished help from the central government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia Penang, the House of Representatives, Department of Marine Fisheries, and Department of Marine Fisheries in North Sumatra, the Department of Marine Fisheries of Langkat, and local administration of Langkat, to help free the fishermen.
"Now is the month of Ramadan, the fishermen's families hopeful their father or their son could jointly celebrate the Eid," he said.
Wife of fisherman, Masitah seek help from the government. She hopes the government immediately repatriated her husband to Indonesia.
"My husband has been detained by Malaysian police and we don't know when they can return to Indonesia, I just hope and pray the Indonesian government can immediately repatriate the fishermen from Langkat who detained in the Penang Island," she said.
