REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Japanese government has donated industrial equipment to Indonesia. The equipment was given handed over through the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and the Ministry of Rural Development and Transmigration.

This equipment is produced by people living areas that were hit by a devastating earthquake in the eastern region in Japan in March 2011, according to a press statement issued by the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta and received by Antara here on Thursday.

The equipment was handed over by the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasuaki Tanizaki, to the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono.

The donation would help boost economic and social development in Indonesia and will also strengthen bilateral economic relations.

In addition, Japan's superior products made by those in areas that suffered in the earthquake will now help in the reconstruction of the areas similarly hit by disasters in Indonesia.

The equipment includes wheel loaders, excavators and infrared cameras.

It will help expedite public works such as river bank protection and flood mitigation as well as in research development.

Meanwhile, the equipment given to the Ministry of Rural Development and Transmigration includes medical kits for elementary and junior high schools, portable ultrasonography (USG) and diagnostics machine.

The Japanese government hopes that the move will strengthen the bilateral relationship between Japan and Indonesia.
