"Today, we arrested two suspects, with the initials T and M, in Semarang, Central Java," Special Criminal Unit Chief Agung Setya stated at the Indonesian Police Headquarters in Jakarta, today.
Setya noted that the two suspects had acted as the distributors of fake vaccines.
"We are focusing on investigating the extent of their distribution network," he remarked.
Until now, 15 suspects have been arrested in this case. The police have yet to reveal whether all the suspects are involved in the same network or if there are several different networks.
It was earlier reported that at least three groups were involved in the production of fake vaccines.
The three producers are P, who was arrested in Puri Hijau, Bintaro; HS, taken into custody in East Bekasi; and H, along with his wife R, arrested in their house in Kemang Regency.
It was revealed that each business could generate a weekly profit of up to Rp25 million, while distributors could earn a profit reaching Rp20 million per week.
Agung stated that the fake vaccines were distributed in the Jabodetabek region, Banten, West Java, Central Java, and Jogjakarta.
"They have been in the business since 2003," he added.
For their ill acts, the suspects are liable to face a maximum prison term of 15 years and to pay a fine worth Rp1.5 billion.
