REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Arief Hidayat to discuss legal solutions to regional election disputes.
"Just now, (we) informed (the president) that we had handled the 2015 cases as best as possible," Hidayat noted after meeting the president at the Merdeka Palace, here, Monday.
Almost all cases related to the 2015 regional head elections had been handled, except for two cases respectively concerning the Muna regional election dispute in Southeast Sulawesi and the Mamberamo Raya election dispute in Papua.
The court will issue the verdicts on the two cases after Lebaran or the Eid al-Fitr Islamic Holidays, he added.
President Jokowi lauded the MK for handling the cases without affecting the government's stability and the nation's political apparatus, according to Hidayat.
He hoped the MK will continue to deliver good performance in the 2017 regional head elections (Pilkada).
The MK chief believed that the 2017 Pilkada would be less problematic as the number of the participants is less than that in 2015.
The court has made preparations in anticipation of possible disputes during the 2017 Pilkada, including by adjusting MK's regulations to the new Law on Pilkada, he added.
On the occasion, the MK chief has sought the president's consent to officially open a meeting of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions to be held in Bali in early August.
