REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The House of Representatives' Commission I has offered its condolences over the death of Indonesian Ambassador to Croatia Alexander Litaay on Sunday.
"The members and leaders of the House of Representatives' Commission I pray to God to seek forgiveness and peace for the late Alexander Litaay and to give strength to his family," Chairman of the House's Commission I Abdul Kharis Almasyhari stated here on Monday.
Kharis remarked that Litaay had played a major role in improving bilateral relations between Indonesia and Croatia.
"Litaay was able to increase the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Croatia," he noted.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi had earlier expressed deep condolences over the death of Ambassador Litaay on Sunday.
"I hope the family will be able to remain strong and patient in dealing with the loss," she stated.
Ambassador Alex died due to heart disease on Sunday (June 26) at the Dubrava hospital in Zagreb, according to the foreign ministry.
The ambassador had suffered from heart disease and had a stroke on April 23, 2016. He was in a state of coma since April 25.
Ambassador Alex died at the age of 68 and is survived by a wife and three children.
Litaay was a politician of the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP). He was born in Ambon, Maluku, and was appointed as ambassador to Croatia by President Joko Widodo on January 13, 2016.
Several politicians from PDIP, including Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and legislator Eva Kusuma Sundari, were among those who sent their condolences to the family of the ambassador.
