REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- The Semarang police has arrested a drug dealer who was trading in ecstasy and had obtained the contraband from Jakarta.
"He bought the drugs in Jakarta and brought these to Semarang to sell here," Semarang police chief, Commissioner Burhanudin, said in Semarang on Monday.
The suspect, 43-year-old S. Yanto from Temanggung, Central Java, does odd jobs such as a driver, in Jakarta.
The authorities also seized 100 pink ecstasy pills.
"Yanto was captured from the Tawang Station in Semarang along with the contraband," he revealed.
According to the reports, he had purchased ecstasy pills for 145 thousand rupiahs for each pill, and planned to sell these for 400 thousand rupiahs per pill.
"The drug is rather expensive since it is not easily available," he added. Burhanudin informed that the suspect had permanent buyers for illegal drugs.
He further reiterated that drug circulation was a matter of concern as the contraband had now percolated down to educational and even religious institutions.
Drugs are now found even in schools and retreat centers.
In February, President Joko Widodo had held a closed-door meeting to discuss ways to fight against drug abuse and rehabilitation treatment for drug addicts.
He had urged every party to cooperate in checking drug smuggling, and had argued in favor of organizing rehabilitation programs.
"I want the fight against drugs in the country to be bolder, braver, more comprehensive and integrated," he pleaded.
