BNN solved 1,015 drug cases during 2015-1016 period

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The regional and central wings of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) have solved 1,015 cases, involving 72 drug trafficking networks during the period between 2015 and 2016.

According to a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta, Tuesday, a total of 1,681 suspects were arrested following investigation into the cases involving Indonesian and foreign nationals.

The agency had also unraveled a money laundering case involving funds that were acquired from drug trafficking, through which several assets worth Rp142 billion were seized.

The evidences taken into custody in the past year and a half include 2.8 tons of methamphetamine, 707,864 ecstasy pills, 4.1 tons of dried cannabis, and a 69-hectare marijuana field.

The unraveling of these cases is part of the efforts to curb the supply of drugs in the country. Moreover, the agency, in cooperation with several private and public rehabilitation institutions, has rehabilitated 42,429 drug addicts from 2015 until now.

Of the total number, 2.5 thousand were rehabilitated at BNN's grand rehabilitation halls in Lido, Bogor; Baddoka, Makassar; and Tanah Merah, Samarinda and Batam, Riau Islands.

The agency had also conducted urine tests on 186,533 people at work places and educational institutions, and 1,175 people tested positive for the use of drugs.

Furthermore, BNN had taken an alternative commendable step by imparting life skills training for the last year and a half to 705 citizens in several areas prone to drugs.

The agency had also established an anti-drug task force in all regions in Indonesia, recruiting 19,854 people comprising students and members of government institutions and the community.
