REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- Demand for cement in Gorontalo surged 26 percent year-on-year so far in 2016, signalling revival of the regional economy.
"The growth is exceptionally high compared to 3.4 percent growth recorded nationally and 5 percent growth by eastern Indonesia," Andi Unggul Attas, the president director of state cement producer PT. Semen Tonasa, said.
Unggul said the country's cement demand is predicted to grow 8 percent in 2016 , but the performance so far was below expectation.
"In Gorontalo, however, extra ordinary growth was recorded in economic development," he said.
Deputy governor of Gorontalo Idris Rahim said the provincial administration puts infrastructure in priority in its development program.
He said the provincial administration believed that progress could be expected in improving the people's welfare only with adequate infrastructure.
"We are aware that only with adequate infrastructure we could boost economic growth in this region," he added.
