REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said here on Thursday that preparations to meet the flow of homebound travelers during the post-fasting holiday of Lebaran have been completed.
"According to reports I have received they have all been ready. We will only wait to see their implementation. Based on our calculations, traffic jams will only occur on the Brebes to Tegal route," he said after distributing food aid packages at the Kebanyakan village in Banten province, West Java.
President Jokowi has instructed Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan to be ready to meet the flow of homecoming traffic during Lebaran this year.
"In line with the Presidents directives there are two things that have to be done. First is eliminating gridlocks during homecoming and returning journeys. This is a tough job," Ignasius said when leading a roll call ahead of the Lebaran operations at his office recently.
President Jokowi has also called for increasing the safety of travelers during their travel to and from home.
Ignasius also urged the authorities to take firm action against any violation of traffic regulations, especially the one that endangers the safety of other travelers.
"From seven days before and seven days after Lebaran last year, there were more than 700 people killed on the street. It is a tough job (assuring safety)," he said.
