REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Tasikmalaya, West Java on Friday morning (15/7).
According website of Indonesia Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), the quake was centered at depth of 10 kilometers below sea level at distance of 330 kilometers southwest of Tasikmalaya Regency. Location of the earthquake is at 10.62 degrees southern latitude and 107.93 east longitude.
The agency noted the quake occurred at about 1:28 am. BMKG also explained the earthquake had no potential cause tsunami in southern Java Sea.
Meanwhile, according to the website of United States Geological Survey, the earthquake epicenter was located about 257 kilometers from Christmas Island. The earthquake is estimated caused by the collision of the Indo-Australian plate and the Sunda plate movement with average of 50-70 millimeters per year.
