REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama appealed to all hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and midwives in the capital to always purchase vaccines from authorized distributors.
"We warn all hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and midwives in Jakarta to buy vaccines from authorized distributors only," Governor Basuki said at the City Hall, Jakarta, on Monday.
"Do not purchase the vaccines from unknown suppliers. Purchase vaccines only from authorized distributors only. Do not accidentally purchase the vaccine at low prices for personal monetary gain," added Basuki.
Currently, the Jakarta Health Agency has imposed sanctions against parties found to have been involved in administering spurious vaccines.
"The Jakarta Health Agency has revoked the licenses of practicing midwives and clinics found guilty of using fake vaccines. Basically, we have taken decisive measures in case of all such health facilities that used fake vaccines," Basuki stated.
Basuki also underlined that the revocation of the permit of Harapan Bunda Hospital was within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health, while the legal case has been handed over to the police.
Earlier it was known that six practicing midwives were found to have resorted to spurious vaccines. These included Midwife Lia in Kampung Pelaukan Sukatani Cikarang, Midwife at Perum Graha Melati Tambun, Midwife Tabina in Perum Sularata Sukatani Cikarang, Midwife Lis in Perum Seroja Bekasi, Midwife Mega in Puri Cikarang Makmur Sukaresmi and Midwife M Elly Novita in Ciracas, East Jakarta.
Also, two health clinics were known to have used fake vaccines, namely Dafa Clinic Dr. Baginda in Cikarang and Clinics Dr. Ade Kurniawan in Rawa Belong Slipi, West Jakarta.
