REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government that comprise of Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security of Indonesia (kemenkopolhukam), National Police, armed forces, and State Intelligence Agency (BIN) have agreed to grant request from Din Minimi, one of former of rebel group in Aceh, to obtain forgiveness from the government (amnesty).
Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said amnesty and abolition is one of the cultural approach used by the government, to reduce violence actions of radical groups.
However, he explained the abolition and this amnesty does not just given. The government has agreed to give clarity legal status of Din Minimi's followers. Considering they also had committed murder and rebellion. About 70 members of Din Minimi were returned and claimed surrendered considered by the government. However, Luhut divide these 70 people in two categories.
As many as 49 people have already returned to the public and will be awarded Amnesty by the President Joko Widodo. Another 21 people who are now in prison will be given abolition.
"We took this decision after long discussion. We have agreed to give forgiveness to them. It also become one of the conditions from them and then surrendered to the state," he said at the Parliament Building on Thursday (21/7).
State Intelligence Agency chief, Sutiyoso said consideration of giving amnesty and abolition to the Din Minimi's group because it is one of the agreement between the government and group.
Sutiyoso added, other the considerations is because they are Indonesians. They also completely not deny the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
Rebellion they did expressed disappointment to government of Aceh that controlled by Free Aceh Movement (GAM).
"In addition, hundreds of members of Din Minimi's group is still under the age of 20 years old. They are still very young, and they can get a chance to improve life rather than to grow up in the forest and fight," he said.
