Ministry plans to add lighthouse to Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- The Ministry of Transportation has planned will add the number of lighthouses in the entire territory of the Indonesia. This is an effort to support the safety of marine.

"For (the plan) the addition of the lighthouse, but adapted to the needs and view strategic locations, especially at the border," said Secretary of the Directorate General of Sea Ministry of Transportation Boedhi Setiadjid in Semarang, Central Java, Thursday (4/8).

He explained that the determination of the location in an area that will be built new lighthouses must through assessment and mapping as well as coordinate with relevant agencies.

"In addition the lighthouse, we also need consider mobility of the officers who will be stationed there," he said.

According to him, in addition to infrastructure navigational and marine safety, lighthouse also has function as a boundary marker of Indonesia's maritime areas.

Based on data from the Directorate General of Sea Ministry of Transportation until December 2015, known that the number of lighthouses spread in Indonesia as many as 281 lighthouses, light buoys 1,540 units, 463 units beacon buoys, beacons 135 units and 40 units of buoy child. Light buoy mounted on rocks in the middle of sea.

If the reef not marked, it can endanger ships which passing the sea.

Beacon buoys can be operated at daytime and nighttime installed in waters to mark the waters safely crossed by ships.
