REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE -- Japanese investors are planning to invest in the white coconut industry in Tidore Islands, North Maluku.
"We want to build the white coconut industry in Tidore Islands to produce coconut sugar. We have also conducted a survey to develop the fisheries industry in the region," President Director of PT Tata Sugih Mineral Makoto Takuma said here on Monday.
The president director, accompanied by director Kenichi Hori, conducted a survey of coconut and fishery sector in four sub districts in Oba, Tidore Islands, North Maluku.
"I am surprised to see the great potential of coconut and fishery sectors that has not been explored optimally," Makoto Takuma affirmed.
Following the survey, he will hold further analysis to formulate development plans for coconut and fishery industries.
"The result of the survey is expected to be announced in two weeks," he stated.
Meanwhile, Tidore Islands Mayor Ali Ibrahim lent support to those wanting to invest in the region.
Therefore, the local administration will strive to develop infrastructure and to meet the electricity needs.
"We are working to meet the electricity needs in Oba and to improve the infrastructure, especially roads, in an attempt to facilitate the investors," Ibrahim remarked.
The Mayor affirmed that the local administration continued to work hard to increase the income and welfare of the community. Inviting investors to manage natural resources in every village and sub district to exploit these fully was part of such efforts.
Therefore, he called on the community to maintain security and to support the local administration.
