Resigned from PDIP, politician Boy Sadikin join Sandiaga's team

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Did not satisfied with his party decision to backs incumbent in Jakarta gubernatorial election 2017, Boy Sadikin left the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).

Boy felt it was the right decision, neither for PDIP nor himself. In his resignation letter sent to the PDIP chairperson on Wednesday (9/21), Boy said his aspirations regarding Jakarta governor candidate is different with the chairperson of PDIP preferrence.

On Tuesday (9/20) night, PDIP announced the party backs the incumbent, Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.

The former chief of PDIP Jakarta's region council thought, the difference between himself and the party would have a negative effect on the PDIP's unity and solidarity to face the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Boy wanted to have freedom to express his aspiration to other political party that suitable with his own personal convictions. "This is a big punch for PDIP, we may call it a disaster for PDIP in Jakarta gubernatorial election," Said Salahudin, political observers Synergy Indonesian Community for Democracy (Sigma), said.

After his resignation from PDIP, Boy joined Sandiaga Uno's team. Sandiaga was appointed by the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) as a Jakarta's governor candidate . "He's willing to join our team," Sandiaga said at his winning camp at Melawai area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (9/22).
