REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The narcotics directorates of the regional police need to ramp up coordination in their efforts to help the National Police (Polri) fight against drugs.
"We must cooperate, do not work alone," said Director of Narcotics Crime Affairs of the Criminal Investigation Department of Polri Brig Gen Dharma Pongrekun, here on Monday.
The cooperation in question involves sharing information and data on cases of drug-related crimes under investigation.
"Data should be shared. It should not be kept in isolation. So each directorate must focus on its area to detect inter-provincial cases passing through that area because drug cases are cross-border crimes. Let the province concerned reveal it," he remarked.
One of the 100-day working programs of Police Chief General Tito Kanavian involves fighting the circulation of illegal drugs.
To that end, the national police chief has ordered the Internal Control (Paminal) officers of the Profession and Security Supervision of Polri (Propam) to monitor and evaluate the performance of the drug directorate across all regional police.
"I have ordered the Propam to monitor the directorates that do not carry out my policy. Anyone found 'playing' with narcotics should be arrested," stated Kanavian.
He noted that officers of the drug directorates who are not working optimally will be dealt with firmly and transferred (to another section).
"For those who do not make arrests, I will give them sanctions and remove them," he said.
