REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The chief of the Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU DKI Jakarta), Sumarno, officially declared three pairs of candidates would contest for the elections of governor and vice governor scheduled in February next year.

The three pairs were declared eligible after all the requirements needed were met. "Based on the results of verification three pairs of governor and vice governor candidates were declared meeting the requirements to become participants of the elections of Jakarta governor and vice governor in 2017," Sumarno said.

The three pairs of candidates of Jakarta governor and vice governor who had been declared meeting the requirements are incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and vice governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, former education minister Anies Baswedan and businessman Sandiaga Uno, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, who is a former military member and son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who would pair with former civil servant Sylviana Murni.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok, and Djarot Saiful Hidayat are supported by Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), Golkar Party, Hanura and Nasdem.

Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno are supported by the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

Agus and Sylviana are supported by the Democrat Party, the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), the United Development Party (PPP) and the National Mandate Party (PAN).
