REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Police (Polri) has asked its Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to stay at the highest level of readiness in anticipation of any possible law and order situation in the country. "It is an internal exercise for Brimob to ensure the personnel are ready in case they are needed," head of Public Information Bureau of Polri's Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Agus Rianto, said here when asked to confirm reports to this effect on Saturday.
An official note number B/ND-35/X/2016/Korbrimob, dated October 28, 2016 and signed by the deputy commander of Brimob Corps, Brigadier General Anang Revandoko, was circulated earlier. The letter to assistants/commanders/chiefs was sent in anticipation of any public security or law and order disruption across the country.
Agus explained that the state of readiness was not meant for Polri nor was the situation as a whole in any serious state. The head of public information of Polri's Public Relations Division, Senior Commissioner Martinus Sitompul clarified that it was only an internal circular meant for Brimob members. "It is a common and routine thing to declare a Highest Alert Level to safeguard the Unitary State of Indonesia," he stressed.
