REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Vice President Jusuf Kalla said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) planned to visit earthquake victims in Pidie Jaya and Biereun District, Aceh. The President will depart to Aceh from Bali. “The President will fly there tomorrow right after the visit in Bali,” he said at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/7).
Kalla said although he has planned to visit Aceh, he cannot do it together with the President. On a disaster, the President and the Vice President could not visit a site together.
On the occasion, Kalla also promised that the government will help the earthquake victims in Pidie Jaya and Biereun Districts, Aceh. All kinds of difficulties experienced by the victims will be resolved. “We will help the residents or employers who have difficulties in various ways,” he said.
However, the government has not able to estimate the total losses caused by the earthquake. It led to damages of many homes, schools, and shops.
Kalla emphasized that the handling of the earthquake victims would be a top priority both by the government and the society, although it has not categorized into a national disaster. Based on the report from Public Relations of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), there were 52 people killed by the earthquake, and mostly came from the districts of Pidie Jaya and Biereun District.
The newest update from BMKG stated that there were 92 people killed by the earthquake and 213 others were injured. There were 92 shop units were heavily damaged and partly flattened, located in five districts. Forty one units were in Meureudu, 26 units in Tringgadeng, seven units in Banda Dua, 16 units in Bandar Baru, and two units in Meurah. There were also five mosque units suffered severe damage in the districts. Besides the buildings, four points of roads in Pidie Jaya also suffered for cracked, such as in Tringgadeng, Langputu, and Ulim.
