Some Indonesian nationals are on the loose after sent to Syria

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Head of Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) Police Brigadier Rikwanto stated that the National Police still investigated people behind the recruitment and the sent of three Indonesian citizen to Syria. They allegedly went to that country to join the war.  "There are other citizens sent and they have not been caught," said Rikwanto at the National Police Headquarter, Jakarta, on Monday.

According to him, the men do not know each other. They were arrested in Syria on December 5. They were indicated to join the war in conflicted country. And then, the trio were deported through the Istanbul Airport, Turkey. Rikwanto was sure that they came from a same network (sender). But, they had different recruitment processes.

The trio were known as Tomi Gunawan (18) from Pekanbaru, Johana Jang (25) from Bandung, and Irfan (21) from Jakarta. The Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) Antiterror Unit immediately arrested them on their arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday (December 24). They were directly taken to the Brimob Headquarter in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java, to be investigated.
