REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A national figure and the suspect of the treason case, Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, felt that she was being cornered by the police. This statement was delivered by her spokesman, Teguh Santosa, in his official statement on Tuesday.
Teguh said that Rachmawati felt it after a statement stated by the Head of Public Relations of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Argo Yuwono to the reporters at the police headquarters, South Jakarta, Monday (January 9). It was delivered after the examination of the economic analysts, Ichsanuddin Noorsy. Argo said that the police examined him because he ever met Rachmawati at Amanah Rakyat House.
Teguh denied the information. "Mrs. Rachma never attended a discussion or being a speaker in the discussion held in Amanah Rakyat House as said by the Jakarta Metro Police. The police can checked this to the manager of Amanah Rakyat House and the former vice governor of Jakarta, Priyanto," said Teguh in his official statement, on Tuesday.
He also said that Rachmawati was strongly protested the police for the allegations of doing treason. "She has already given a quite clear statement on all the charges during two examinations. Mrs. Rachma feels there is an attempt to continuously discredit her with the baseless accusation," said Teguh.
Noorsy, he said, attended the opened meeting held on 20 November 2016 in the Hall of Ir Soekarno at University of Bung Karno (UBK), Jakarta. Many activists attended the meeting and delivered their speech there. The mass media also be able to cover these activities.
According to Teguh, Rachmawati has explained that there is no specific agenda to be discussed on the meeting. It discussed two things. Firstly, the defense of Islam by monitoring the blasphemy case did by Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). Secondly, the defense of the country by submitting a petition to look back on the Basic Constitution in 1945.
Rachma argued that the amendments of the constitution have been conducted for four times since 1999 to 2002. This, said her, becomes the root of many problems faced by this country. The amendment makes the government does not be able to protect its citizens.
Teguh added, the issue has been a long discussion for Rachmawati. She has stated her thought when being a member of the Presidential Advisory Council in the era of the former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"At that time, Mrs. Rachma had never been charged with treason. Why, nowadays, the aspiration to turn back on the original Basic Constitution is equated with the act of treason and the attempts of toppling the legitimate government? It's weird," said Teguh.
