REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Humanities in University of Indonesia (FIB UI), Rocky Gerung, said the government is panic in dealing with fake news or hoaxes. He addressed harsh critic to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Indonesia Lawyer Club (ILC) TV show on Tuesday.

"We smell something like panic in the regime. People who are panic usually want to find any kind of grip. Like an almost drowning person, he reaches anything. Whether it's a tin can or trunks. So panic shows there is a crisis, actually, " said Rocky.

According to Rocky, the current regime wants to control the truth based on its standard. He suspected that there are lies hidden in the government's effort against hoax. He argued, "There are lies hidden when a regime constantly control the truth."

Rocky considered that the producer of the best hoax is the ruling government. "The maker of the best hoax is the authority," he said. 

He said the authorities have all the equipments to lie, such as intelligence, statistical data, and media. All the equipments made the government able to lie perfectly. 

The President of Indonesian Lawyer Club (ILC), Karni Ilyas, admitted to intentionally invited Gerung after reading his critics for the government. However, his performance in the ILC on Tuesday (17/1) made Karni shocked. "It was harsher than his writing," said him.
